Press Enterprise Article on B.A.S.I.A by Gregor McGavin

  Patricia Green-Lee:  CEO & Founder of B.A.S.I.A.
Born in Sylacauga, Alabama Patricia learned early on what the struggle for African Americans had healthcare and the lack of information, education, and medical treatment was personally.

She to Los Angeles, California at the age of 14 years old, and Los Angeles is where she completed her education.  Patricia has always had a desire to become a Psychologist in Human Services.   Even more, to assist individuals in overcoming mental illness, substance abuse, and other issues plaguing African Americans.

Giving back to her people [African American] has always been important to Patricia.  She began volunteering with National Council of Negro Women (NCNW) and the parent organizations Women in Community Services (WCS).  As a volunteer with these organizations, she became Project Director of Job Corp form 1971 to 1973.  Working with NCNW and WCS created a desire to work with individuals [African Americans] in all underserved communities of Los Angeles, primarily in the Watts area.
________________________________

In Watts, she worked for the Watts Health Foundation; currently know as The United Health Plan.  Her positions consisted of Admissions Clerk, and Pre-Paid Health Plan Representative.  Her dream of developing an organization remained always in the forefront of her career choices.
_____________________________________

She moved to San Bernardino County in 1994 with a vision of opening rehabilitation program for women and children.  While working for an outpatient agency (Prototype Women & Children Center Program) she met Linda Hart.  Patricia and Linda became close friends and begin to share their dreams of helping others, even more, a vision of opening an agency that would be for African Americans as well as other underserved populations in San Bernardino.

In 2002, Patricia and Linda decided to obtain their own non-profit status in order to open a program addressing the epidemic of HIV/AIDS in the African American communities of San Bernardino County.

B.A.S.I.A has a personal meaning for Patricia, one of her own children contracted the HIV/AIDS virus, and as a mother, she works hard on the fight is to ease the pain that other mothers would endure because of this deadly disease.

Patricia holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Services, and multiple Certifications in Substance Abuse and Domestic Violence Counseling

Maya Angelou's poem "And Still I Rise"  was an inspiration for me[Patricia] and my work with B.A.S.I.A, because with God, family, friends, and those I seek out to help... "And Still I Rise."  And Still I Rise through the love of my people, and the "I" is also for the Black/African Americans in the Inland Empire and the world.  We will RISE above HIV/AIDS through education, testing, personal involvement, and God's grace.
